3301-24-23. Resident educator license renewal
-
(A) A resident educator license issued pursuant to section 3319.22 of the Revised Code and rule 3301-24-18 of the Administrative Code may be renewed for the reasons specified in paragraph (B), (C), or (D) of this rule, and also upon verification that the license holder meets the requirements specified in paragraphs (E) to (H) of this rule.
(B) The resident educator license holder has completed less than two years of the teacher residency program ("Ohio Resident Educator Program") described in section 3319.223 of the Revised Code and rule 3301-24-04 of the Administrative Code; or
(C) The resident educator license holder has completed more than two years of the teacher residency program, but the license has lapsed to the point that a two year license extension would not bring the license current; or
(D) The resident educator license holder has completed more than two years of the teacher residency program, but does not anticipate being able to complete the remainder of the residency program within an amount of time that could be accommodated by a one or two year license extension.
(E) For a currently expiring resident educator license, renewal shall require completion of three semester hours of coursework related to classroom teaching and/or the area of licensure, from an accredited two year or four year institution of higher education, completed since the issuance of the resident educator license to be renewed.
(F) Renewal of a resident educator license that has lapsed for up to five years or longer shall require completion of six semester hours of coursework related to classroom teaching and/or the area of licensure, from an accredited two year or four year institution of higher education, completed since the issuance of the resident educator license to be renewed.
(G) All coursework completed for resident educator license renewal should lead to new knowledge in the classroom and be related to student achievement.
(H) The increased amount of coursework associated with renewing a lapsed license will not apply provided that the license holder completes the currently required amount of coursework by September first of the year that the resident educator license expires.
(I) If a resident educator license holder has already obtained a two year license extension period pursuant to section 3319.22 of the Revised Code, and at the conclusion of that license extension still has completed less than two years of the teacher residency program ("Resident Educator Program"), then the license holder shall meet requirements for and be issued a renewal of a resident educator license rather than continuing to apply for license extensions.
