3769-6-25. Safety helmet and vest

(A) A safety helmet of design approved by the commission and/or the stewards must be worn by every jockey in a race. An approved safety helmet shall also be worn by any person engaged in working out a horse on any flat racing strip. The outriders shall report all violations to the stewards who may fine and/or suspend any person who violates this rule.
(B) A jockey or apprentice jockey shall not ride in any race unless he/she wears a safety vest. Such safety vest shall provide a minimum of shock absorbing protection to the upper body of a five rating as defined by the british equestrian trade association. A safety vest shall weigh no more than two pounds and shall not be included in the jockey's weight when weighing out to race.
