3769-6-60. Whip restrictions  


Latest version.
  • A jockey may be fined and/or suspended for the following actions that could be considered excessive, indiscriminate or brutal use of the whip.

    (A) Causing visible injury to a horse

    (B) Striking another horse or rider on the track

    (C) Using the whip on a tired horse

    (D) Whipping a horse after a race

    (E) The use of any goading or mechanical device, chain, nail, or appliance, other than the ordinary whip used for racing

    (F) The use of a whip which is longer than thirty inches in length, including a looped popper of not less than one and one quarter inch in width

    (G) Any other use of the whip the stewards may deem inappropriate
