4765-8-07. Merging of EMS and fire certificates to establish a mutual expiration date

(A) No later than April 1, 2011, the following shall occur for every current EMS provider:
(1) The individual shall be issued a new expiration date for the individual's certificate to practice, as set forth in this paragraph:
(a) If the individual is not a current firefighter or fire safety inspector, the certificate to practice will expire on the individual's birthday in the same year as the certificate to practice is set to expire;
(b) If the individual is also a current firefighter and/or fire safety inspector, the certificate to practice will expire on the same date as the individual's firefighter certificate or fire safety inspector certificate, if the individual does not possess a current firefighter certificate.
(2) The individual shall be given new continuing education requirements, as set forth in this paragraph, for renewing the individual's certificate to practice for the merged certification cycle. In order to be eligible for such a renewal, the individual must complete the following percentage of required continuing education hours, the total of which are set forth in Chapters 4765-12, 4765-15, 4765-16, and 4765-17 of the Administrative Code, for the following merged certification cycle:
(a) Twelve months or less, no continuing education hours are required;
(b) More than twelve months but less than twenty-four months, thirty per cent of the hours of continuing education for each respective level of certification, as set forth in the appendix to this rule;
(c) Twenty-four months but less than thirty-six months, sixty per cent of the hours of continuing education for each respective level of certification, as set forth in the appendix to this rule;
(d) Thirty-six months or more, one hundred per cent of the hours of continuing education for each respective level of certification, as set forth in the appendix to this rule.
(B) Within ninety days of the effective date of this rule, the following shall occur for every holder of an EMS certificate to teach:
(1) The individual shall be issued a new expiration date for the individual's certificate to teach, as set forth in this paragraph:
(a) If the individual is a current EMS provider, but not a current firefighter or fire safety inspector, the certificate to teach will expire on the individual's birthday in the same year as the certificate to practice is set to expire;
(b) If the individual is not an EMS provider, firefighter or fire safety inspector, but holds a certificate to teach, the certificate to teach will expire on the individual's birthday in the same year as the certificate to teach is set to expire;
(c) If the individual is both a current an EMS provider and a current firefighter and/or fire safety inspector, the certificate to teach will expire on the same day as the individual's firefighter certificate or fire safety inspector certificate, if the individual does not possess a current firefighter certificate.
(2) The individual shall be given new continuing education and instruction requirements, as set forth in this paragraph, for renewing the individual's certificate to teach for the merged certification cycle. In order to be eligible for such a renewal, the individual must complete the following percentage of required continuing education and instruction hours, the total of which are set forth in Chapter 4765-18 of the Administrative Code, for the following merged certification cycle:
(a) Twelve months or less, no continuing education or instruction hours are required;
(b) More than twelve months but less than twenty-four months, thirty per cent of the hours of continuing education and instruction for each respective level of the certificate to teach, as set forth in the appendix to this rule;
(c) Twenty-four months but less than thirty-six months, sixty per cent of the hours of continuing education and instruction for each respective level of the certificate to teach, as set forth in the appendix to this rule;
(d) Thirty-six months or more, one hundred per cent of the hours of continuing education and instruction for each respective level of certificate to teach, as set forth in the appendix to this rule.
