4101:16-2-01 Continuing education - hours of instruction requirements.
(A) All individuals holding
aan electrical, plumbing,hydroponicshydronics, refrigeration, or heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) contractor's license pursuant to Chapter 4740. of the Ohio Revised Code are required to complete ten classroom hours of approved continuing education courses each year to be eligible to apply for renewal of their license.The ten classroom hours of continuing education shallconsist of the following subject areas and the minimum hours required in eachsubject area:Any individual holding an electrical contractor's license must take ten hours of continuing education courses per year, five of which must relate to the electrical code and the other five of which may consist of any other board-approved course or courses as a renewal requirement. The ten hours of courses required of all other licensees for license renewal are not limited to a minimum number of hours in any specific board-approved curriculum topic.(1)At least one classroom hour devoted exclusively to instruction on the coderegulations governing the appropriate contracting specialty.(2)At least one classroom hour devoted to instruction of the principles of businessoperations.(3)At least one classroom hour devoted to technology associated with theappropriate contracting specialty.(4)At least one classroom hour devoted to health and safety regulations.(B)
All individuals holding an electrical contractor's license pursuant to Chapter 4740. ofthe Revised Code are required to complete thirty classroom hours of approvedcontinuing education courses over a three-year period to be eligible to apply forrenewal of their license. The thirty classroom hours of continuing education shallconsist of the following subject areas and the minimum hours required in eachsubject area:(1)At least twenty classroom hours devoted exclusively to instruction on the"National Electrical Code".(2)At least five classroom hours devoted to instruction relating to business andadministrative skills.(3)At least two and one-half classroom hours devoted to technology in the field ofelectrical contracting.(4)At least two and one-half classroom hours devoted to health and safetyregulations.(C)(B) A classroom hour consists of at leastsixtyfifty minutes of instruction.(D)(C) Continuing education hours obtained by individuals holdingaan electrical, plumbing, hydronics, refrigeration, or heating, ventilating and air conditioning contractor's license pursuant to Chapter 4740. of the Ohio Revised Code in excess of the ten hours required each year for renewal eligibility may not be transferred to help meet the requirements of the following year.(E) Continuing education hours obtained by individuals holding an electrical contractor'slicense pursuant to Chapter 4740. of the Revised Code in excess of the thirty hoursrequired during a three-year period may not be transferred to help meet therequirements for any future reporting period.(F)(D) No individual holdingaan electrical, plumbing, hydronics, refrigeration, or heating, ventilating and air conditioning contractor's license pursuant to Chapter 4740. of the Ohio Revised Code will receive credit for more thaneightten classroom hours of continuing education instruction taken in one calendar day.(G) No individual holding an electrical contractor's license pursuant to Chapter 4740. ofthe Revised Code will receive credit for more than ten classroom hours ofcontinuing education instruction taken in one calendar day.(H)(E) An appropriate specialty section of the board may waive any portion of the continuing education hours requirement in cases of certified illness, disability, military service, foreign residence, or other circumstances which prevents the attendance of approved continuing education courses by a person holding a license pursuant to Chapter 4740. of the Ohio Revised Code. Continuing education waivers will be determined on a case-by-case basis.(I)(F) Pursuant to section 4740.10 of the Ohio Revised Code, if the continuing education requirements are not timely met by an individual holding a specialty contractor's license on or before the expiration date set forth on the license, the license shall automatically expire by operation of law.the appropriate specialty section shallautomatically suspend the license and direct the administrative section of the boardto refuse renewal. The license holder will be informed of the action of the specialtysection by the board's executive secretary. The suspended license shall be reinstatedupon satisfaction of the continuing education requirements within ninety days ofthe date of renewal.Replaces: former 4101:16-3-06 in part
