    Notice of Public Hearing

A public hearing will be held by the Office of Attorney General Jim Petro, on Friday, January 27, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. in the Lobby Hearing Room on the first floor of the Rhodes State Office Tower, located at 30 E. Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio, 43215. The purpose of the hearing will be to solicit public comment on the amended rules 109:2-1-07 and 109:2-1-12.

Due to the current military operations, OPOTA has seen a marked increase in the number of peace officers and peace officer basic training cadets who are also members of the Ohio National Guard and reserves, called to active duty. OPOTA desires that these citizen-soldiers not be penalized for their service to our country by allowing their current peace officer certification to expire. To ensure this service, a change in the current administrative rules must be made.

These amended rules make changes so that individuals returning from prolonged military service are not subjected to the additional training requirements. These particular rules deal with both open enrollment graduates and appointed peace officers. In addition, this hearing services as the five-year review for these rules.

All interested parties are invited to attend the hearing and present oral and/or written testimony. Written comments must be submitted to Kelly Nomina, Office of Attorney General, at 30 E. Broad St., Columbus, Ohio 43215. Copies of the proposed rules may be obtained by contacting Ms. Nomina at the address given above or by calling (614) 995-0326. Copies of the proposed rules will also be posted on the Attorney General's website, which is found at  www.ag.state.oh.us.
