    3301-41-01                  Standard  for  issuing  an  "Ohio  High  School  Equivalence Diploma".

     

     

     

    (A)    Definition: The "Ohio High School Equivalence Diploma" shall indicate that the holder thereof has achieved the equivalent of a high school education as measured by scores obtained on the GED® as published by the "American Council on Education" (acenet.edu). The minimum standard scores as described in this rule and other information about the GED® program are available through the Ohio department of education's website (education.ohio.gov).

     

    (B)  Eligibility: To take the GED®, an applicant must be officially withdrawn from school and be at least nineteen years of age. However, exceptions to the age requirement shall be granted as follows:

     

    (1)   An applicant who is eighteen years of age is eligible if the class of which the applicant was last a member has graduated; or

     

    (2)    An applicant who has been sworn into active military service is eligible if a statement, indicating the date of the swearing-in ceremony, is submitted with the application; or

     

    (3)    An applicant who is sixteen or seventeen years of age is eligible to take the GED® with written approval from a parent, guardian, or court official, and the school superintendent, community school or STEM school principal, from the applicant last attended school; or

     

    (4)   An applicant who is eighteen years of age is eligible with written approval from the superintendent, community school or STEM school's principal, from where the applicant last attended school. (The applicant may sign the approval form instead of the parent, guardian, or court official.)

     

    A  school  superintendent,  community  school  or  STEM  school  principal's designee may provide the signatures required by this paragraph.

     

    (C)      Certificate: The state board of education shall issue an "Ohio High School Equivalence Diploma" to residents of Ohio who have not received a high school diploma provided the minimum standard score set by the "American Council on Education" or a higher score set by the state board of education on each test and an average standard score set by the "American Council on Education" or a higher score set by the state board of education on all five tests of the GED® are attained.

     

    An individual who is not a resident of Ohio who passes any GED® test shall

     

     

     

    receive an official GED® transcript that may be used as evidence of passing a GED® test.

    (D)       Application fee: Applications shall be submitted with a nontransferrable, nonrefundable application fee set pursuant to a fee structure approved by the superintendent of public instruction available through the Ohio department of education's website (education.ohio.gov). The application fee shall not apply to inpatients of veterans' administration hospitals within Ohio.

    (E)     Test administration fee: The Ohio department of education shall reimburse the official GED® test centers an administration fee established by the superintendent of public instruction.
