    4757-25-04                  Requirements for licensure as an independent marriage and family therapist.

     

     

     

    The requirements for licensure as a licensed independent marriage and family therapist are generally set forth in division (c) of section 4757.30 of the Revised Code.

     

    (A)The applicant shall complete an application as prescribed in rule 4757-1-04 of the Administrative Code and submit the required fee established in rule 4757-1-05 of the Administrative Code.

     

    (B)An applicant for licensure as an independent marriage and family therapist shall demonstrate compliance with the requirements of paragraph (C) or paragraph (D) of this rule.

     

    (C)For an application postmarked no later than April 7, 2005, the applicant shall meet all of the following requirements:

     

    (1)Achieved one of the following:

     

    (a) A master's degree or a doctorate in marriage and family therapy from an accredited institution at the time the degree was granted by a regional accrediting organization recognized by the board.

     

    (b) A graduate degree from an accredited institution that includes a minimum of sixty semester or ninety quarter hours of graduate level coursework in marriage and family therapy training that was accepted by the "American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy" (AAMFT) for clinical or associate membership.

     

    (2)Engaged in the practice of marriage and family therapy for a total of not less than five years prior to April 7, 2003, defined as follows:

     

    (a) Activities that include the application of marriage and family theory, therapies, and techniques, treat, evaluate, assess, test, counsel and manage emotional disorders within the context of marriage and family therapy systems with individuals, couples, or families. Individuals include children, adolescents and adults. The activities include but not limited to: training professionals in the field of marriage and family systems, consultation, supervision, administration, case management, and treatment of mental and emotional disorders.

     

    (b) Experience will only count when the applicant is primarily engaged in activities of marriage and family therapy for a minimum of twenty hours per week.

     

    (3)At the time of application is an associate or clinical member of the "American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy" (AAMFT).

     

     

     

    (4) Completed a practicum that includes at least three hundred hours of client contact. Clinical members (AAMFT) have met this requirement.

    (5) After completion of the required education in division (C)(1) of this rule, has completed at least two calendar years of work experience in marriage and family therapy that meets all of the following requirements (clinical members of AAMFT have met these requirements):

    (a) The experience must include one thousand hours of documented client contact in marriage and family therapy.

    (b) During the thousand hours of client contact, the applicant must receive two hundred hours face-to-face supervision by a supervisor whose training and experience meet the standards established in rule 4757-29-01(C) of the Administrative Code.

    (c) Of  the  required  two  hundred  hours  of  face-to-face  supervision  one hundred hours must be individual supervision.

    (D) For an application postmarked on or after April 8, 2005, the applicant shall meet all of the following requirements:

    (1) Has a degree which meets the requirements set forth in 4757-25-01 of the Administrative Code.

    (2) Passed the marriage and family therapy examination approved by the board.

    (3) After completion of the required education in division (C)(1) of this rule, has completed at least two calendar years of work experience in marriage and family therapy that meets all of the following requirements:

    (a) The experience must include one thousand hours of documented client contact in marriage and family therapy.

    (b) During the thousand hours of client contact, the applicant must receive two hundred hours face-to-face supervision by a supervisor whose training and experience meet the standards established in rule 4757-29-01 (C) of the Administrative Code.

    (c) Of  the  required  two  hundred  hours  of  face-to-face  supervision  one hundred hours must be individual supervision.
